ABOUT THEA WRITER

THEA Writer is inspired by my favorite word processor of all time and its beautiful, minimal blue screen. I built it to be a writer's distraction-free word processor. It does its job and gets out of your way, so you can write. THEA Writer is free. THEA WRITER ON A MAC

System requirements

• A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs are not supported.

• MacOS 14 Sonoma or later.

• About 50 MB of free disk space.

Installing

1. Double-click THEA-Writer-3.5.dmg.

2. Drag THEA Writer 3.5 onto the Applications folder.

3. To keep the user manual, drag THEA Writer Manual.pdf to your Desktop or any folder you like.

4. Eject the THEA Writer 3.5 disk.

5. Open THEA Writer 3.5 from Applications.

If macOS says it can't verify the developer, open System Settings, choose Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the THEA Writer message. You only do this once.

Uninstalling

1. Drag THEA Writer 3.5 from Applications to the Trash.

THEA WRITER ON WINDOWS

System requirements

• Windows 11, 64-bit, on an Intel or AMD processor.

• About 70 MB of free disk space, and about 180 MB more for the

• NET Desktop Runtime if setup installs it.

• Microsoft's .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64). If your PC does not have it, THEA-Writer-3.5-Setup.exe downloads it from Microsoft and installs it for you: that needs an internet connection once and Windows asks for an administrator's permission.

  • To install it yourself first, get the ".NET Desktop Runtime 10" for Windows x64 from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/10.0

Installing

1. Double-click THEA-Writer-3.5-Setup.exe.

2. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC," click More info, then Run anyway.

3. Follow the installer's steps. If the .NET Desktop Runtime is missing, setup fetches it before it installs THEA Writer, and Windows asks you to allow it. THEA Writer 3.5 appears in the Start menu when setup finishes.

Uninstalling

1. Open Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. Find THEA Writer 3.5 and choose Uninstall.

GETTING STARTED (Both Versions)

Type ~/help on its own line in any document for help, or ~/keys for the keyboard shortcuts. The user manual, THEA Writer Manual.pdf, covers everything in more detail. THEA Writer carries the manual and this Read Me inside it: the Help menu opens them, and can save a copy of the manual or print it.
